Web Services Software Engineer

Drakontas LLC is seeking a talented Web Services Software Engineer who is interested in creating cutting edge collaboration tools supporting military, law enforcement and public safety missions. This position will contribute to research and development of innovative technologies to enable seamless interoperability between disparate command and control systems. The candidate should have a strong background in XML, web services and SOA. Experience applying, or demonstrating the ability to rapidly learn, standard data models such as NIEM and GJXMD is a major plus.

You will join a small and highly motivated team to develop applications on a wide variety of platforms. To gain a full appreciation of our customers' needs, our software engineers test our applications by embedding with tactical professionals during training exercises.

 
Responsibilities:
  • Hands on participation in all aspects of the development lifecycle, from design to implementation to testing to deployment and on-going maintenance.
  • Engineers system integration and information sharing solutions, utilizing web services, XML, standard data formats such as Global Justice XML Data Model (GJXDM) and National Information Exchange Model (NIEM).
 
Requirements:
  • Graduate degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Hands on experience implementing web services; experience deploying services in an SOA environment; demonstrable knowledge of SOAP, WSDL, WS-Notification, etc..
  • Solid background in Windows and Linux server development / deployment; extensive development experience using a broad range of languages and platforms - Java / Python / C++.
  • Extensive experience using object-oriented design and programming practices; hands-on experience using software engineering tools, such as Eclipse, Git, debugging tools, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of XML and related technologies (XSD, XSLT, etc.), HTTP and other web protocols.
  • Experience using various software frameworks and open source packages such as Apache, Tomcat, Openfire, Mule, Django, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of XMPP, or the ability to quickly learn/understand XMPP and related messaging protocols.
  • Good understanding of wireless networking technologies (e.g., 802.11, HSDPA, EVDO, etc.), IP protocols including socket programming, and distributed systems; experience using traffic sniffers and analysis tools.
  • Strong oral and written skills required; ability to effectively communicate technical visions with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • 4+ years of software team development experience required.
  • Exposure to GJXDM and/or NIEM is highly desirable.
